The Abbeyfield Society was founded in London in 1956 to alleviate loneliness amongst older people through the provision of housing. The movement spread with the setting up of local Abbeyfield societies throughout the UK, Europe, and in 14 countries including Australia and Canada.
In 1980 the Abbeyfield NI Development Society was formed as a registered housing association to develop and refurbish Abbeyfield houses in Northern Ireland and in 2003 sixteen local Abbeyfield societies merged together with the Development Society to form Abbeyfield UK (NI).
Wesley Housing Association, formerly the North Belfast Mission Housing Society, was established by a group of lay clergy from the Methodist Church in 1947, and in 1979 became a registered housing association.
Following a year of discussion, Abbeyfield UK (NI) Ltd and Wesley Housing Association Limited merged in 2013.
Abbeyfield & Wesley provides a range of high quality housing options to enhance the lives of older people.
